Back to School!!!!!

Okay, so maybe I am the meanest mom, but I think the first day of school is my most favorite day of the year! Not that I don't love spending time with my kids, but to pack them all up to drop off at school for a whole day is just heaven. I mean I get to have at least 4 hours to myself!!!! Plus, my hubby has to go to work too!!! This year Payton entered junior high. Boy, is she growing up fast. She was soooo nervous but after I picked her up, her day was great and she really likes it. It is so funny watching the kids and how they think they are so cool and adult. Boy, I feel like I was just there yesterday. Was I that lame?? Probably. Sadie and Zeke are in 5th and 3rd grade. They were excited to get back to the routine and see old friends. Caelyn started preschool too for the morning. She was happy to have kids to play with. Although the poor kid is talking about Team Edward and Team Jacob with kids that are talking about Elmo and Dora. She is around too many bigger kids!! The irony of the whole day was that I finally get a morning to myself and at 10am the school calls. What?? I ask. Not the first day?? Sure enough, Zeke had run into a pole on the playground and cut open his head. Could I come pick him up?? UGH!!!! To top it all off today was supposed to be picture day for his football team. As I drove to the school I had visions of a lovely gash right across his forhead and black eyes. I mean, that's how my luck usually goes. Sure enough I get there and he had a small little gash, bleeding of course like head wounds do. Luckily it was in his hair line so we could defintely conceal this. He told me, "Mom, I have lost a lot of blood!!" I brought him home and we changed his clothes so he wouldn't look like a butcher anymore and got out the first aid kit. Sure enough after some ice and a good cleaning the little gash was more like a little crater. I could see pretty deep thru the skin layer and thought CRAP!!! So, we loaded Zeke up, picked up Caelyn from her first day of preschool and headed to the urgent care. As our good luck continued, the pedi-center was closed, the pediatrician was out to lunch and I wasn't about to wait 4-6 hours in an ER. I had to pick up Payton at 2pm!! Luckily around the corner from the hospital is a little urgent care where they were more than happy to treat us. After a couple of stitches and a sucker we were ready to proceed with the day. In fact we made it back in time to pick up Payton from school. I swear I am just a taxi!! We got Zeke all cleaned up in his uniform and tried combing his hair to hide his wound and headed off to pictures. He was so funny because he didn't know that you aren't supposed to smile when you are a football player and I forgot to tell him. Sure enough he did a little grin for the camera. Poor kid, his dad should have taken him. Teddy was able to pick up Sadie and we all went to dinner to celebrate our first day back. Boy, was I ready for bed by 8pm. As we were getting ready for bed, Sadie had her homework out (mind you stuff due probably in a month from now) and was insisting that we finish it tonight!! The best part was I got to be the lucky parent who needed to validate her ideas and work as being correct. I swear no one told me having kids meant I was going to repeat kindergarten thru 12 grade four times!!! I already did it, I don't want to do it again!! I am going to be exhausted if the rest of the year is as crazy as day one. Pray for me!!!!!

So it begins.....

My sweet, little Zeke is finally the golden age of 8. In Bakersfield you can play tackle football at 8 if you weigh 60lbs. The kid barely makes the cut by weighing in at like 61 pounds. He has been so excited to play. Of course he had to play for the Fighting Irish team so he could sport the gold helmet. Last night was his first scrimmage. He woke up at the crack of dawn cause he was so nervous. I was nervous for him because as you can see in the team huddle, yes he is the small one. They have him playing receiver and corner and he does a good job. I don't think he has Sadie's "I am going to kill whoever has the ball" instinct but he always jumped on the top of the pile after all the kids were down. It should be an exciting season and hopefully next time my camera doesn't good dead so I can get some action shots!!

Summer Pics

I have been such a slacker on the pictures this summer. My camera batteries are always dead or I don't have it with me. I found these cute pics of our trip to Carpenteria. Jaime and the kids came up for the day. You can tell it was freezing in the morning but by afternoon it warmed up enough for the kids to tolerate the water. Teddy made us a fire to get warm around that morning and the kids watched for squirrels. We finally made it to the beach by afternoon. You could never get me in!!!
